Is Your Website Compliant?

ADA (Americans With Disabilities Act) For Web Design

The Americans with Disabilities Act was passed in 1990. At that time, websites were not considered a part of the act, in fact, there were no websites for businesses until after Aug 1991. Since then we estimate there are over 1.6 Billion websites currently online. For someone with disabilities, finding a website that is compliant with their needs is becoming a challenge when it shouldn’t be. Litigation is at an unprecedented high over this issue, large companies are being fined, and no one is immune to the repercussions.

Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) is developed through the W3C process in cooperation with individuals and organizations around the world, with a goal of providing a single shared standard for web content accessibility that meets the needs of individuals, organizations, and governments internationally. Finding the right web design company that is familiar with the standards sounds straightforward, but may not be. The standards are listed, but how do you check to see if your website is compliant or not? Has your previous developer taken into consideration how your website is perceived, how it operates, it’s navigation and how it is understood, all from the WCAG 2.1 standard. Did you build your own site and were unaware of the standards?

Some Of Our Clients Remarks

Salterra has done 3  ADA compliant websites for me. They take the time to find out what I want, and are quick to let me know when there are improvements that can be made. In addition, Salterra does absolutely top notch SEO! I have heard tons of stories of companies who claim to be able to get SEO results, but don’t deliver. I’ve seen excellent results repeatedly with Salterra. Check them out!

After making a valiant attempt to create our own website, Elisabeth came to the rescue. She went above and beyond the call of duty in creating the site and helping us go live. After she got her hands on it, it had a MUCH fresher and more professional look – she made us the real deal! It was not just a simple site either. Although she is 3 hours behind us, she often answered texts no matter the time. At our request, Terry spent time over the phone discussing ways we could increase our sales and traffic. We have been working with Elisabeth and Terry off and on for the past 2-3 years and they have an amazing amount of patience and are always willing to help (without charging for every little thing). We appreciate The Salterra Team and do not hesitate to recommend them!

Do I Need a ADA Compliant Website?

Yes. The legislation is one thing but let’s look at the reality of the situation. Your goal as a business is to provide a product or service to those people who are interested and/or qualified. Excluding any segment of the marketplace will automatically put your business at a disadvantage. Our goal is to promote your company to every potential customer you may want. The purpose is not to avoid a lawsuit but to provide your customers with the very best choice on where they do business. Every time a new competitor enters into your niche, your margins reduce, unless they are not on a level playing field.  When doing business online, lets show that your business is serious about taking care of their customers. In order to beat the competition, you have to think of innovative ways to reach more of your marketplace.
